Special Operation in Padma River Char of Sreenagar: Mother Hilsa and Nets Seized

In a special operation conducted in various chars (river islands) of the Padma River adjacent to Bhagyakul and Baghra areas of Sreenagar Upazila, authorities seized mother hilsa fish and illegal current nets. The mobile court was conducted from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Monday at Nuru Boyati’s Char and surrounding areas. During the operation, 175 pieces of mother hilsa and 20 lakh (2 million) meters of illegal nets were confiscated.
Present during the drive were Sreenagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Mohin Uddin, Additional Superintendent of Police (Srinagar Circle) Anisur Rahman, Bangladesh Army Captain Tanzimul Hasan Howlader, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Golam Rabbani Sohel, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Monowara Begum, Sreenagar Police Station Investigation Officer Aminul Islam, along with members of the Bangladesh Coast Guard and other law enforcement agencies.
Executive Magistrate Golam Rabbani Sohel stated that the operation was supported by the Additional District Magistrate, Additional Superintendent of Police, and District Fisheries Officer of Munshiganj. He said that illegal structures built on the Padma River char for hilsa fishing during the ban period were dismantled. The seized hilsa were distributed among five local orphanage madrasas, and the confiscated nets were burned and destroyed. Local residents were advised to remain alert and aware of the ongoing restrictions. The drives will continue.
