tudents of the Anti-Discrimination Movement organized a human chain demanding the reinstatement of Kaiyum Uddin Chowdhury as the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Srinagar Police Station. This human chain event took place in front of the Srinagar Press Club at around 1:30 PM on Sunday.

Participants of the event reported that last Friday evening, police arrested Tariqul Islam, an accused listed in a case and a member of the Upazila Jubo Dal Convening Committee. In response, leaders and activists of the Upazila BNP, Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal, and Swechchhasebak Dal gathered at the police station, vandalized the premises, assaulted the police, and freed Tariqul from custody. Following this, the police filed a case against approximately two hundred accused activists and leaders.
However, as a consequence of this incident, OC Kaiyum Uddin Chowdhury was withdrawn from Srinagar Police Station and attached to the district police lines. Later that night, Tariqul was re-arrested by Srinagar police.
In response, students of the Srinagar Upazila Anti-Discrimination Movement organized a human chain under their banner to demand the OC’s reinstatement. They also issued a 24-hour ultimatum, threatening to launch a larger movement if their demands were not met.
Notably, since August 5, three OCs have been transferred from Srinagar Police Station. Kaiyum Uddin Chowdhury assumed office on November 22, succeeding Yasir Munshi, who was also withdrawn after only two months. Previously, Abdullah Al Tayabir, the OC as of August 5, was transferred to the Industrial Police.
